If You Knew Your History...

So apparently, the mayor of the town of Bogota, New Jersey, objects to having billboards in Spanish in said town.

Um, the hell?

He's the mayor of a town that shares its name with the capital city of a Spanish-speaking country, and he's dismayed (and surprised?) that there might be people who speak Spanish around? It seems that he's so worried about new immigrants to have forgotten that perhaps there is a population of Spanish-speaking people who have been around for a very long time and who may have preserved their own culture even while assimilating to American culture. Because god forbid anyone in this country of immigrants remember their roots.

I *heart* Snowclones

Maybe not as much as eggcorns, but they're still fun. Anyway, the phrase, "cheer up, emo kid" (wherever the hell that originated) seems to have spawned a new snowclone. In the past couple of days, I've run into two different ones based on that phrase. First, "cheer up, emo showrunner" (it's toward the end, and, uh, VM spoiler warning I guess). And second, "cheer up, emo duckling" (awesome icon, by the way).

And now, I should go work on my conference paper. The one I have to present in just under two weeks.
