I've read 40 pages of Nietzsche today. And I have 30 left to read tomorrow. And 2-3 pages to write on the reading by Thursday. Great fun. The reading keeps getting complicated by the fact that my mind keeps bringing up Tolkien's Elves, which could be all well and good for my thesis, but not so much for the purposes of this class.

But as this projected thesis is rarely far from my mind, and Elves kept intruding, today I was hit with this thought: "One Thesis to Bind Them All: A Philosophical Investigation of the Races of Middle-Earth." One section each on Hobbits, Elves, Men, Dwarves, and Orcs. Maybe this could work.

Friday night there was a spectacular storm, and I was sort of caught in it. Alanna, Katrina and I had gone to the Flying Star and stayed past closing. (Heck, we didn't know they were closed until they blared the music and stacked the chairs.) So we left at midnight, but stood out in the parking lot, still talking. Lightning had been flashing for a while already, seen out the window. When we were outside, the rain began, eventually chasing us away into our cars when it reached cloudburst proportions. And the rain kept pouring, all they way to Alanna's house. I discovered just how fast my wipers could go, and how fast the streets could turn to rivers reflecting street lights and traffic lights. The rain lightened but never stopped all the way back home. It took nearly an hour to get there, driving slow.

I'm considering dyeing my hair different colors - green and purple streaks, and blue in there too. Blue tips perhaps, or maybe another streak. Haven't quite settled on that yet.
