Indo-European is going to kick ass. There are also four Pervy Tolkien Fanciers in that class. Modern Philosophy is huge, and there are a couple other people from Nietzsche there, one of whom I thought was a grad student.

I've finally finished the reading for tomorrow. I'm having a bit of trouble with the reading for Satire. It's difficult to read Horace when the translator is not simply lurking behind the text but smiling and waving at you. "Phallacies." "Sexistentialism." "Nocturnal omission." (And if your mind is in the gutter, yes, what you're thinking is correct.) "Parasites Lost." Plus there are several mentions of more modern things, like red lights to signify "stop." It's not as bad as the translation of the Lysistrata I read for Hum 110, with its talk of blue jeans and pizza. It might have made things easier to understand, but really threw me off after several weeks of Greek culture.

I pretty much skimmed Phaedrus. I read it a couple weeks ago, and also read the introduction today. So skimming about 50 pages was easy. I did pay attention to the footnotes, though, because the first edition that I read didn't have any of those. Or a real introduction. Noticed a lot of coyness. Phaedrus and Socrates accuse each other of being coy, and Lysias' speech is an exercise in coyness. Have to wonder if the coyness extends to the whole work. Also, the Phaedrus is quite possibly one of the world's first examples of real person fanfiction. Socrates was, of course, and actual person, yet Plato puts a lot of words in his mouth. And in the case of this dialogue makes up a completely fictional conversation.

Got a few more books today. Malory's Le Morte Darthur, Lais of Marie de France, Swift's Gulliver's Travels, David Lodge's Changing Places, and a different translation of Plato's Phaedrus. I till have four more to get, though. Arg. Two of the Middle English books were still not there. Same with Zen Teachings of Master Lin-Chi. And Kingsley Amis' Lucky Jim was just not there at all. Not even a spot for it on the shelf. Had I known that, I could have added it to yesterday's order.
