Sometimes I think that's what Descartes' problem is. Sure, he says they are meditations, but I suspect they were premeditated. And he was setting out to prove the existence of god.

As to his proof, I understand the argument better now. But I still disagree. I can accept the idea of a philosophical god, like Aristotle's First Unmoved Mover. But I accept it as an alternative to infinite regress, which is an idea I'm quite comfortable with. Used to play with the idea qutie often. No beginning and no end. It all comes down to linear vs. cyclical time, really.

Had a read-through meeting for the play today and went out do dinner before it, and I have subsequently gotten very little homework done. So, no work done, no real rest. What the hell have I done today?

I did read part of Tolkien's essay 'On Fairy-Stories.' I think I can use it for that unwritten Sea Captain paper. And I can talk about Shakespeare's contributions to fairy lore - specifically the diminution of fairies - without having to finish reading a really long article about that very topic. (I didn't finish reading it because it also talked about a lot of poets - influenced by Shakespeare in the matter of fairy lore - that I haven't read and have no interest in doing so just yet.)

What is it about cell phones that make people think it's perfectly acceptable to babble about everything out in public? Yesterday on the bus I was sitting next to someone telling whoever she was on the phone with all about her dad's health problems. Thanks to the absolute unavoidability of having to overhear the conversation, I know more about it than her little brother does. Thanks. I really needed all that. I realize that people need to talk about things sometimes, but then there's foisting your private life upon people who don't care and can't escape.
