Feb. 15th, 2004 01:24 amSomething was going on at the convention center yesterday. On the way over to Alanna's, one lane of the MLK bridge was backed up, and some idiot who thought they could circumvent the backup nearly started blocking up the other one. And on my way home, MLK was closed and I had to go around. The police had blocked the intersection, and we sat through several green lights. I hurled insults and yelled, "What the hell is going on and why can't I get the fuck out of here?" And all in a British accent, because I'd been hearing it for three hours. We'd been watching Gormenghast, which is quite good and has Jonathan Rhys-Myers in it. It's also Hamlet-esque. If Hamlet was an ambitious kitchen boy. Tonight we finished watching Gormenghast and then a few episodes of The Office, which is also good.
Tomorrow is the unofficial Tolkien Fanciers trip up to Santa Fe to see the Ted Nasmith exhibit. I'm no longer certain I want to go. So much reading, so little desire to drive around Santa Fe. Even though it was my idea. But also, I think I'm done with the socializing for this weekend. Spent quite a bit of time doing that this afternoon. It was my aunt's birthday and retirement party. A good portion of the family was there, along with a bunch of people I didn't know because they were from my aunt's former workplace. I mostly sat around watching people. And eating. So, really, not so much with the socializing. Perhaps I should just spend time with my books.
