Jul. 17th, 2004 11:00 pmHad the audition today. It went pretty well. I wasn't the complete nervous wreck I was initially at the Cuckoo's Nest audition. Instead, I was energized and ready to go. Warm ups are good things. It was a cold reading, one of them colder than the other. I got to read some of the sides while waiting, and when I went in, I read for Jessica, the one I'd seen before, and an annoying student, which I hadn't seen at all. Also, I got to stand up on a chair and yell. When I walked out of the room, no one walked out right after me, as they usually did to call the next person, and the woman outside keeping track of all the paper stuff said, "You must have slayed them." I'll find out by Monday. Afterward, I went over to Geckos for a little reward and to tell Eric about it.
On Thursday I went to see the show I missed last weekend. Getting there was fun, because it was raining quite heavily near the university, and Central was a river. But it was worth the five buck and the free parking. The show started with some solo pieces, most of which were good, but there was one that just left me flat. It probably didn't help that there were people walking in just as the girl started, thus breaking my concentration. But I also found myself thinking, "This isn't going to be five minutes of slow angsting, is it?" The pace was very slow, and I couldn't really tell what was going on. Don't give me something I don't know how to react to. Arg. The one act was pretty good. Most of the actors were excellent. And the evening ended with the TitM PlayWrite show, "Nothing Can Help Us Now." It's actually a bunch of bits of things, the first one of which has three people complaining: "I have really bad acne." "My credit is so bad I can't get financing." "I'm having an existential crisis." And they all exclaim, "Nothing can help us now!" Then someone comes in, announcing, "That's right! Nothing can help you now. Just unscrew the cap, apply liberally, and wait one full minute." And then they do stand on the stage for one whole minute. It's interesting how audiences react to that. People start laughing. A nervous twitter here and there, and then more people start giggling, and then you have everyone laughing together, and then it falls off into scattered twitters again.
Next weekend: Under Milkwood. And TitM reunion party thing.
