I Need Liquor. And Something to Destroy.
Nov. 3rd, 2004 11:21 pmYesterday my dad asked, "So will you be disappointed if Kerry doesn't win?" I could understand the level of smugness in his tone if I'd been a rabid supporter, with bumper stickers plastered all over my car and pins all over my coat and bag and if I'd been spending evenings at campaign headquarters and whatnot. But that wasn't the case, so... shut up, asshole.
And in any case the answer was, no, I wouldn't be disappointed. I would be angry. Which indeed I am. Mostly at half the American population for being idiots, but also at Kerry for the cowardly act of conceeding before all the votes were counted. And the point of being ready for a legal fight was...? This is the point at which I'm glad I'm not associated with any political party, because damn, the Democrats have no spine. Did we learn nothing four years ago? Count all the fucking votes; it's not over until the counting is done, damn it! Ohio wasn't done counting, and without acutally counting, you can't possibly know for sure what the results would be with those included.
I'd tried to avoid the news all day yesterday, and almost did, until Fox decided to interrupt the Simpsons for a pointless update. Fuckers.
But at any rate, I'm not planning to bail out of here. Yet. I'll just be an alcoholic in four years. I do plan, though, to remain under the poverty line so as to not pay any taxes to this administration. I've succeeded in that so far.
One good thing did come out of starting the day so angry, though. The anger kept me from getting nervous about the MSSA colloquium. But I'll write about that and other things later, because it's been a really long day and I'm tired.
