May. 23rd, 2005 02:49 amI finished reading The Name of the Rose yesterday. Damn, that's good stuff.
I then proceeded to blaze through The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in less than a day. And... I was less than impressed. I guess there was a reason I couldn't get through it the first time I picked it up, years ago. I felt cheated by the ending, and I found the Christian symbolism rather anvil-icious. Overall, it just seemed to give me less than it promised. Or more than it should have. Much of the stuff at the end could have been either left out or fleshed out more.
But enough with literary criticism, I'm going to bed.
