I Hate Waiting For People
Mar. 17th, 2001 09:34 pmSo, I'm supposed to be going over to the Bio lab to check our plates from yesterday. That would involve Meg. Which brings up a good question: Where the hell is Meg? It's nine thirty already. I'd like to actually do this thing, get it done. It's St. Patrick's Day, and this year I have the means by which to properly celebrate; I still have some vodka left. Probably enough for a couple drinks. And I have enough mixer for one Screwdriver and one Purple Nipple. But no alcohol for me until that lab shit is done. Work before drink.
I've been slacking off as far as writing in this journal. But that's mostly because I haven't been slacking off in my classes. I went to both Logic lectures this week. I slept through half of my classes on Monday and nearly did the same on Tuesday. But I've been doing all the work for class. And that meant that I did a whole lot of reading this week. Oh, jeez did I read. Wednesday I had to spend three hours in the library reading stuff on reserve. And Nathaniel was sort of stalking me in the library. But apparently stalking in the library is a pretty common occurence. Well, my library experience is now more complete. Well, getting there. It's not at all complete, since I don't even know my way around the freakin' place. I know where the reserve desk is, I know where the reference desk is, and I can get to Jean's desk and to the IMC. That's all I need know at this point. Wednesday was also the day that a bunch of students gathered to go to Regina Mooney's office to turn in a petition and individual letters in support of James. We don't know if that will do a damn bit of good, but we're trying. Last night some people were talking about that, but then started talking about the administrators here and how much of a politician the college president is. Who would have thought? That's basically an administrator's job. You can't get around the fact that an administrator has to be something of a politician. So work with it, don't complain about it.
Thursday I didn't have as much to do as I had every other day. I just had lots of Bio. I had to set up Friday's lab, because we did something with conjugation. It had been raining all day, and then it was suddenly sunny. Then it clouded over again but wasn't raining, so I took that opportunity to go over to the Bio lab. I hadn't even gotten to the bridge when it started raining, then pouring. So I took a detour and stopped at the MRC to wait for the rain to let up a bit. I also had a Bio lab report to write. We finished it in less than two hours. Then there was the Steele Study Break. Several of us got there before the floor was actually prepared for having the study break. It was somewhat confusing, as no one had specified which side of Steele East II it was on, so we went back and forth a bit, but when we found out which side it was, it still wasn't set up. Ah well. We still got food. While we were waiting, I was accosted by Carrie, who needed help with the lab report. When she saw me, she exclaimed, "You're a Bio person! You can help me! I need a Bio person!" "Well, you've got two right here," I said, as Darrow was standing in the hall with us. But he bailed once he found out that this lab report was for Mellies' microbiology section. (Mellies wasn't here two years ago, which was when Darrow was in Intro.) But I think I was able to help. I told her what I had thought of, but as I was explaining it to her, I realized that maybe it didn't actually make much sense. Oh well. Too late now.
Friday I had a Hum midterm. I was so afraid of not getting up that I had Jean knock on my door to make sure I got up. I didn't sleep well, either. I slept for six and a half hours, but I was only half asleep the whole time. I kept sort of dreaming of biology, all the while thinking, but I have a Hum midterm before I have to deal with Bio! The midterm wasn't bad. I didn't take it in the lecture hall, as I had made the mistake of doing last semester. I went to the library and sat at Jean's desk. My Hum conference was cancelled, but I didn't find that out until I went to class and found that there were only four of us, and no conference leader. So, after putting our chairs up on the table and sort of starting conference and crawling through windows, we left. Bio lab wasn't bad. We got out really early. Most people left early, because they figured that the staining part of the lab didn't matter because there was no lab report for that part. But Meg and I stayed and did the staining and still got out damn early. I got a little bit of crystal violet stain on me, but more malachite green, as I didn't use gloves to take the malachite green-soaked paper towel off the slides. But then I dropped one into the tub with all the waste stuff, so I had to use gloves to fish that out. So, I had malachite green on my fingers. It's gone already, which is not surprising, considering how many times I washed my hands last night. When I drink, I usually have to make many trips to the bathroom. And I did drink last night. I think my tolerance is going up, as I got less toasted off of two drinks than I did off of one drink just last week. Scary. And I'm going to push it even more this week! But before I drank last night, I went to see the Pork Filled Players at the Brody theater. They're a comedy troupe, and they do skits dealing with multicultural things. Like sexuality issues and what it's like to be Asian in this country. It was rather funny. When I came home, I ended up going to see the Fellatio Rodriguez and the Daughters of the Revolution show. Fellatio Rodriquez is Reed's improv troupe. Last night's was the first of their shows that I've been to. I hadn't realized that there was a show last night, really, but I had been over at Darrow's when he and some other people went, so I went along.
So that was my exciting week. Or something like that. I'm leaving out a lot of stuff, like all the crap that has been going on in my brain. But it's ten o'clock, and I still haven't heard from Meg, so I'm going to try calling one more time, and I'm just going to go to the lab and do the stuff, because there's that bottle of vodka in my desk drawer calling my name.
