Jun. 25th, 2004 11:21 pmI hate it when my mother talks about me in front of me. "She's broadened her horizons." (You know nothing about my horizons.) There's the implication that I need to change, somehow. (You don't know how I've changed. And if you did, maybe you wouldn't like it.) It's not that I don't like my mom, I just feel rather... distant. Still can't be wholly myself around either of my parents. It's an old pattern that gets more and more frustrating.
But anyway.
Yesterday I went to Asae's wedding. Nearly didn't, because I didn't know where it was or how to get there until two hours before the ceremony. But I did go, and drove up with Sarah. During the reception, we sat at a table full of theater people from high school. The ceremony itself was quite short, maybe fifteen minutes. Still haven't actually met the groom, although I know name and face. Seeing someone my age get married is one of the strangest things I can imagine. My sisters were or will be married in their late 20s or early 30s. That is the pattern that seems normal to me.
But the prize for the most bizarre fifteen minutes spent this week goes to Un Chien Andalou, known in English as The Andalusian Dog. We watched it twice in Film & Literature today, so really it was a bizarre half hour. It's a surrealist film and therefore does not make sense, because it isn't meant to make sense. But I like it.
Also today I finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. And so this weekend I'm going to go see the movie again, because I'm writing my second paper for Film & Lit. on it, and I have to do so by Wednesday. This week is going to be nasty fun, what with the paper and then Tolkien midterm and then Film final. The midterm should be relatively easy, though. But I have quite a bit of reading to do before all that. I might end up giving Cuckoo's Nest a miss, because if I do go see it, it'll have to be tomorrow. Sunday I should be doing other things.
