Things and Stuff
Aug. 7th, 2004 12:50 amToday I went with Gabrielle to see What the #$*! Do We Know!?. The promotions seem a bit misleading. Mystics? I counted one. (The only other non-scientist interviewed is a theologian.) Religion and science? Well, there was lots about quantum physics, a healthy dose of philosophy, and a couple short segments on God thrown in at random points. There were some interesting things in it, but overall I wasn't highly impressed. But then, I'm a philosophy student. My only gripe, though, are the weird animations. Because apparenty the masses are so dumb that they can't understand science unless it's explained by means of freaky cartoon cells. And I must admit I was slightly distracted for two reasons: 1. Wondering where the stuff about science and religion being "all in one big happy accord" (the Alibi's words) came in, and 2. Trying to figure out if the narrative part was indeed filmed in Portland (it was). I have more gripes with the Alibi's blurb about the movie than with the movie itself. "Matrix-ispired philosophy"? You mean... metaphysics? A field of philosophy that a hell of a lot of people were thinking about since well before the Wachowski brothers' grandparents were born? (I was quite underwhelmed by The Matrix.)
The other day I went to get my paper back, and while I was there I got my grade for the whole class too. A+. Am very happy. And my paper kicks as much ass as I thought it did. I've also posted it on HASA and gotten a very positive response there.
Wednesday I went shopping with my mom, sister, and the kids. I almost didn't go, but I'm glad I did, because now I have new clothes. And a dress to wear to my other sister's wedding. It's a really awesome dress, though, so I need other excuses to wear it as well.
Overall, an excellent week.
