Sep. 18th, 2004 12:30 amIt's Friday night, and I'm not in Denver. That's because it was revealed that I could leave tomorrow instead, because the wedding isn't until five in the evening, and so I got to go to the LotR symphony. The one that I heard about way back in the spring or so, but wrote off as missing it because of my sister's wedding. But we decided to go tomorrow, since we'd miss the rehearsal dinner anyway because I couldn't have left before one in the afternoon. So now I have to get up early on a Saturday. Ah well.
The symphony was quite good. I got a pretty good seat, despite buying a ticket at almost the last minute for a concert that sold out. And much cheaper than I thought it would be. Like, almost $20 less. The stage was quite crowded, what with the orchestra, the chorus, the boy choir, and a very impressive array of percussion instruments spanning the entire stage. Also, I've never been to a concert where the applause lasted so long. Sitting next to me were two women who had flown into 'Burque just for the concert, one from Reno and the other from PDX.
Dinner with my dad was quite... illuminating. Turns out that he really isn't a fan of Bush. I would have thought otherwise, given the way he rants and raves at the campaign ads on TV, but whatever. Also, he thinks the current election system is bogus. Well, we can agree on that, at least.
Today I went chasing around to a bunch of bookstores looking for a copy of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. I've had a bitch of a time finding one. The copy in Zimmerman is apparently lost, because it's not on the shelf and is not recorded as being checked out or on reserve or anything. And the public library doesn't have it. Not a single copy in any one of the many branches of the library. Searcing for "Shanley" turned up a bunch of video tapes of Moonstruck, and that was all. Nothing in the used bookstores (trying to be cheap, here), nothing at Barnes & Noble. And finally I found it at Borders. I'm almost done reading it, and it's a good play. I like it and all, but finding a part to work on in class might be interesting. Mostly because there's stuff that makes me a bit uncomfortable, but only because of scene partner issues. He joined the class a week and a half ago or so, and so there really hasn't been enough time to establish trust. And there might be some things getting in the way of that too, but I don't want to go into that. At least the book I found has 12 other plays in it by the same author, so if I really can't find something I'm totally comfortable with (for this situation) in Danny, there's some other things to look at.
I think I've forgotten to mention that I've suddenly found myself vice president of the Hobbit society. It was the only spot left when I went to go finish filling out the charter. Ah well. Or something.
But I should go sleep now, because I have to get up early and pack before driving up to Denver.
