Oh, the Awesomeness
Mar. 28th, 2005 01:21 amAfter last Thursday, I can now say that I've seen the Gutenberg Bible in more detail than most people ever will. There was a lecture on the HUMI project (digitizing of rare books), which was incredibly interesting and wonderful and all that. So yes, I got to see incredibly high resolution images of the Gutenberg Bible. You could see the fibers in the paper.
Just as awesome: IMS Spring Lecture Series this week. Yay! And almost as awesome: I'm slightly ahead on class things, on account of lecture series.
I've been thinking a bit about my thesis lately. I think I'm settled on something about philosophy of language and Tolkien's work. I've also been thinking about my lack of Renn Fayre, since I'm writing the thesis here. But, perhaps I'll go up to Reed for Renn Fayre anyway. With laurels on. If I can find them.
I've also thought about grad school a bit. Current plan: take a year off; then go for a Master's in Philosophy somewhere, preferably in England if I can manage it; and then off to St. Louis to study with Tom Shippey. This is pretty likely to change, except for the year off.
