This Should Have Been Posted SATURDAY
Jul. 31st, 2001 10:44 pmOld Friends
I spent much of the day in Santa Fe, at the Spanish Market. (I almost typed Saturday Market. No, that's in Portland.) But anyway. My aunt had a booth there, as did an old friend of my sister's, and the grandfather of one of my old friends. So I talked to my friend's grandmother. He's been in Vermont for several years, just graduated from high school last month, changed his last name because his stepfather adopted him, still looks exactly the same as he did when we were in preschool and inseparable. His grandmother told me about how we would always be holding hands. I don't really remember that, but I do remember sitting out in the playground with him, going to eat ice cream cones at Baskin Robbins and he would bite off the bottom of the cone, and then try to eat the whole thing as normal. Don't really remember holding hands all the time, or rolling around on the floor together as my friend Mary tells me we would, but I certainly do remember the one time we were apart. Funny, he was hanging out with Mary, of whom then I was jealous but who is now one of my best friends. Strange how things work out, eh?
Also today I saw an old friend of my sister's. Apparently when I was little, she and my other sister would scream back at me. Don't remember that, either.
Lately I've been thinking that maybe it isn't quite so surprising that I'm a biology major. I don't know. I've been also somewhat drawn toward medicine and such. Working at the Pharmacy Board being just one factor there.
It was so freaking hot today. My aunt nearly passed out twice, and the first time the paramedics had to come. And today I was wearing jeans. But tomorrow we're going back and I'll wear shorts then. My legs are freshly shaved for this purpose.
Oh, I got to hold my new cousin Vianne today. Twice. She's a large baby. And very happy. She was especially happy to see her little cousin Amelia.
I ate lunch at a little restaurant near my aunt's booth called The Burrito Company. After we ate, my cousin Ayden and I had a funny face contest. He won.
We're going back up to the Spanish Market tomorrow, this time sans my sister and niece, but there will be more family there. One of my aunts came into town today, and there were a bunch of other relative that weren't there today.
I still intend to make an entry of those questions that came with the mentor stuff earlier this week, but I will save it for later. Right now, I should probably write to people. Or something.
