It has been a day of frustration. First there were the articles I copy edited for the newspaper which made me wonder if anyone at this school can write. There are just so many things I read that make no sense, or are badly done. I encountered better writing in high school! And everywhere, not just on the newspaper, I see public written things that have incorrect spelling, bad grammar, what have you. Does anyone realize that eventually such things become a barrier to understanding if you have too many such errors? Does anyone here know how to recognize these errors? If so, how the hell do they let them pass into print?

Second, there was the letter by Albuquerque Academy Concerned Parents that I was forwarded by a fellow alumna. It was basically a few parents complaining about GSA's library display and using that one example as support for their agenda for changing the school, and making claims about the persecution of Christians at Academy, and the questioning of Academy's diversity policy. Well, first of all, I never, in all my seven years witnessed any serious incidents of the persecution of Christians, and most certainly have I not seen it to the extent that it exists here at Reed. And second, Academy's diversity policy definitely needs to be questioned. The question that is most important to ask is whether that policy is being fulfilled. Is the Academy really making a commitment to diversity? That is a question asked every year with Diversity Day, and a question which I know the Advocate, the school paper, has raised, having penned an editorial on it myself. I have forwarded the message to other alumni and to current students and some faculty. And I intend to write a letter to these Concerned Parents. I wonder how they'll handle my opinion, as it is the opposite of theirs. They say they invite responses of all kinds.

And finally there were the assholes upstairs. They were noisier than ever tonight, with running up and down the hall and such all evening and into the night. The worst were the people above me, as I could hear them yelling and screaming and running around and just generally seeming to raise hell. Sometimes I hate living in dorms.

I haven't done much work. I should have and planned to, but that didn't happen. I did get all the copy editing done. And I've read a little more of the Aeneid. And I've started writing a Reed Dictionary. And hatched a plan to learn HTML and make my own website on which to put the said Dictionary. Along with other stuff. It will probably be a constantly-evolving type of thing.

Well, it's late, I'm still pretty much awake, and I don't have much else to write about. So, I think I'll either get a start on learning HTML or continue working on my Reed Dictionary. Yay for late nights.
