Ah, editing, how I've missed it. I just got through looking over a friend's personal statement for a grad school application. Editing by e-mail and IM is rather interesting. Also today I reviewed a story for HASA. It's good to be more in the swing of things where the written word is concerned.

I generally don't make New Year's resolutions, because I tend to think of self-improvement as an ongoing task, not something to check in with but once a year. But it also happens to be in between semesters, and therefore a convenient time to think of things I should be doing differently so that I can balance out things I need to do with things I want to do.

I do want to be more practiced with writing, which includes writing more consistently here. I've been slacking lately. I'd also like to be more active in HASA: write more, review more, leave more comments on things I read. Also, more generally, I'd like to be better about keeping in touch with people, and keeping up with things going on outside my own little bubble. All of the above involves managing my time better. Which means that I need to quit using laziness/whim as an excuse to put things off.

I'm to get up early tomorrow to go to an art exhibit in town with my mom and sister. We tried going today, but it was quite busy and none of us felt like waiting outside for however long. So, tomorrow, early. Therefore I should get to sleep soon.

Today is Tolkien's eleventy-second birthday. I knew that even without overhearing the pretentious nerds ahead of us in line at the museum today. They weren't pretentiously nerdy, but both nerdy and pretentious.

Anyway, went to the Albuquerque Museum today with my mom, my sister and her family to finally see the Millet to Matisse exhibit. I'd have enjoyed it more probably if we'd gone earlier when half the city wasn't there also. We stood in line for an hour and a half to get in, and then it was rather crowded inside, with people being rude and everything. It was still interesting, though, even though I know very little about art that doesn't have a philosophical bent.

And speaking of art and Tolkien, there is an exhibit of Ted Nasmith's art up in Santa Fe. The show runs through February 17th, but I think if I'm going to go it should be before the semester starts.
