Ms. Fuzznuts Bites the Fish Off A Face
Mar. 9th, 2004 11:55 pmThe play has begun taking over my life. This week and next week I'm going to all the rehearsals, plus some set-building stuff, and then weekend after next (right after tech week stuff ends!) we open. At least next week is spring break. And now there is only one play-related thing before my other midterm that takes place this week. My last midterm is on the Monday after spring break, and finding time to study for that one could also be interesting. I'll probably be fine for the Drugs & Literature one on Thursday. It'll have an essay and a section of questions on things like characters' names and whatnot. Basically the sorts of things asked on the quizzes, which I've done quite well on so far. I do need to review things, though, to prepare for the essay part. Plus, the professor offered to buy lunch for anyone who could get all of the objective questions right, and I fully intend to earn myself a free lunch.
Anyway, the play. The actors are trying to get off book and are mostly but not quite there, and this leads to some very interesting and amusing flubs. New props also provide unexpected moments. Yesterday I was slightly late, because I'd thought half an hour would be sufficent to get to my car, grab some dinner, and get to the theater. Except not. Because I had to wait 15 minutes for the damned shuttle. So it was already five minutes to seven when I got in my car. But it didn't really matter because the first hour of rehearsal was spent getting a set piece built. So really, it was largely spent waiting around for everyone who wasn't one of the two people putting braces on the door. Tonight I had to stand in (or lay in, really) for the critic, who gets shot and carried - none too gently I might add - offstage by the mackerel. It was painful. My arms still hurt. But even with the painful things like that, and the inconvenience to studying, I love theater. Because no matter how tired, hungry, crabby or pissed off I am, once I walk into that black box it's all okay. So this week I'll have to work my ass off reading and studying and whatnot during every spare moment, but it's okay because the obligatory three hours I spend at rehearsal every day are relaxing. It's fun. And it's social, which is something I've been lacking in lately.
And right now I don't particularly care that I still don't have a topic for my Indo-European paper. I'll have to care tomorrow, oh yes, but I'm done for today. At least that midterm went pretty well.
