Ah, two weeks down, fourteen more to go. Is it a bad thing that I'm already counting the weeks in the semester? At least I'm keeping track of something; been a bit scatterbrained lately, doing things like... damn! not calling Stephanie three days ago like I'd said I would. Yeah, um, maybe I really shouldn't take that assistant editor's job. (That would be assistant editor of Best Student Essays, which I don't think I've actually mentioned before.) Um, I plead learning two classical languages at once? And having 18 hours. And other things.
It's a damn good thing I was carrying an extra credit card with me the other day. I stopped for gas (dangerously close to empty at this point), and my usual gas card was expired. Because it was September 1st, and I hadn't thought about that. If I hadn't had something else to pay with, I'd have been screwed and/or late to class. And speaking of expired cards, I haven't gotten the new Discover one yet. Hmm. It's probably floating around somewhere on the kitchen table. My mail has had a disconcerting tendency to disappear into the morass of papers, papers, and more papers on that table and resurface much later. Like the Reed Magazine that just sort of appeared one day. So I'll have to search through the mess before I chew out the Discover people for being slackers.
Spent part of the day at my sister's house, eating chicken burgers and homemade ice cream and brownies. And drinking wine. She sent me home with all sorts of Latin books. So now, sitting on top of the giant stack of books next to me (running out of places to put them!) are a Latin dictionary, grammar book, a book of verbs, Cicero's Pro Archia, and poems of Catullus. Whee! Also in this giant stack of books are Women Who Write Plays and Feminist Drama because I somehow think these will help me find a scene for acting class. Also, Feminist Approaches to the Body in Medieval Literature and Gender and Text in the Middle Ages, because I found them during my wanderings in the library on Saturday. And, at the bottom, my Norton Shakespeare, because I'm planning to read King John before going to see it at the Adobe next month.
On Saturday I saw a guy who had a tattoo on his arm that appeared to be in Sanskrit. Couldn't quite tell, though, and didn't get a chance to ask him about it either. Also on Saturday, Eric asked if I was auditioning for anything. Um... no? Evidently he persists in thinking I'm some sort of actor, an impression that I'm really not sure how he arrived at, considering I was doing tech stuff when we met. Ah well. It's nice to have explicit encouragement in something.
I've been running into a bunch of people from high school lately. It's kind of scary.
One more weekend until my sister's wedding. Wow. And we still haven't figured out who's going up to Denver when. I want to leave Friday afternoon, so that I don't miss any classes, preferring to miss as few as possible. Mom needs to go earlier, because she has to help out with stuff. So she's suggested going up on Thursday. Which... no. I hope they realize that on a normal Thursday, I couldn't go anywhere until after three, because I have Dr. O's class until 3:15. (And then factor in the walk across campus, the shuttle ride to the car, and then the drive home.) Which makes for a pretty late start. And next Thursday there's also the MSSA movie night, which I'd prefer not to miss either. So, it looks like mom goes with my sister and the grandkids on Wednesday, and I go with dad on Friday. Mom has tried to dissuade me from this for some reason. Yes, I know it's not pleasant to drive with dad, but if I could handle thirteen hours in the car with him while ill, I think I can handle this. Of course, I also think I could handle driving myself, but am I going to have a chance to test this out? Ha!
And with that, I shall conclude.
